Show Notes

Before we begin, let me tell you about a live training I’m giving on November 23, called How To Plan Your 2022 Social Media Marketing Calendar. You can get all the details and sign up at my website, www.jcsocialmarketing.com/calendar

GivingTuesday 2021 is right around the corner. Is your nonprofit prepared to promote your organization’s mission to potential donors and volunteers? When executed effectively a strong GivingTuesday campaign can help your nonprofit ramp up fundraising and donor engagement going into the New Year.

34.8 million people participated in GivingTuesday 2020, a 29% increase over 2019. $2.47 billion was donated on GivingTuesday last year - in ONE DAY!  The vast majority of these gifts came from smaller dollar donors, giving under $100 at one time.

My guest this week is  Kathleen Murphy, who leads the digital strategy for GivingTuesday. Before joining the team, she led Illinois’ GivingTuesday Community Campaign, #ILGive. Kathleen teaches nonprofits how to raise awareness, change minds, engage hearts, open wallets, and rally people to action. Her past experience includes community organizing and campaigning on Chicago's south side and leading communications at Forefront, Illinois’ statewide social impact association.

Here are some of the topics we discussed:

  • Why GivingTuesday is NOT a 24-hour money grab
  • How to leverage the power of the day if you aren't raising money
  • How GivingTuesday and the generosity of donors smashes the myth of donor fatigue
  • Examples of campaigns that harnessed the spirit of generosity and giving
